How to Care For Your Furniture

Two Tips to Follow When Buying a New Wardrobe

Here are two tips to follow when buying a wardrobe

Make sure it suits your range of motion and your height

This wardrobe will probably be one of the most-used furniture items in your home, as you'll need to access its contents every morning when getting dressed and when you need to grab clothes for your workouts, as well as when you're ready to put on your pyjamas and go to sleep.  As such, it's vital to ensure that it suits both your height and your range of motion.

For example, if you're fairly short, you might find a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe frustrating to use each day, even though it might hold more clothes than a stouter wardrobe of the same width, as you might need to use a footstool to reach its top shelves and rails. In this scenario, opting for a shorter, wider wardrobe that doesn't require you to use a footstool might make selecting your clothes easier.

Conversely, if you're very tall and have achy knees or a stiff back that limit your range of motion and make kneeling down difficult, you might find that a wardrobe that has bottom drawers to be impractical, as you'll probably end up avoiding putting any essential garments or accessories in these drawers due to how much effort and pain is involved in kneeling down to open and reach into them. In this situation, opting for the aforementioned floor-to-ceiling wardrobe with shelves that are at chest height or above might be more sensible.

Opt for the largest wardrobe that your budget and your bedroom will allow for

Whilst there are situations in which compact wardrobes are the best choice, it is usually best to get the biggest wardrobe that your budget and your bedroom will allow for.  Having a wardrobe with plenty of space will ensure that if or when your clothing collection expands or if a partner moves in and needs some wardrobe space, you won't need to replace this expensive furniture item, due to it not being able to accommodate the extra garments that need to be stored in it.

Even if you know you'll never need to share your wardrobe and don't ever want to have a huge collection of clothes, having a spacious wardrobe could still be helpful, as you'll be able to leave space between each garment on the rail and won't need to stuff each of the wardrobe's shelves with folded items; this will not only make the interior more pleasing to the eye but will also make it easier to find the clothing items you want to wear.
